It is important for all drivers to be aware of traffic laws and safe driving habits, not just new drivers who are fresh from studying traffic guides for the initial driving test. Most accidents could have been avoided if the drivers were paying better attention to the safety rules that should be followed when driving. It is recommended that all drivers periodically attend some type of driver’s education or defensive driving class. In addition to being beneficial, some auto insurance companies will offer discounts to drivers who take the initiative and attend classes to be better drivers. It can also help drivers who have a high number of points on their driving record.
Depending upon the circumstances, points may be removed from the driving record upon the completion of a driver education course. Serious traffic violations such as a DUI are not eligible for this benefit, and there is a limit to the number of points that may be removed. While there is no age limit to driving, senior drivers may benefit from classes as a refresher to the rules that may have changed since they began driving.
Driving classes in Illinois are often referred to a Rules of the Road Review Courses. The course provider must be officially approved by the DMV. This ensures some type of regulation over the classes; the DMV wants to make sure that the classes are beneficial and not just offered to make a profit. In addition to driving classes, all drivers are encouraged to consult the official state of Illinois Driver’s License Manual. The book is available online and is easily downloadable.
Some drivers are mandated to attend driver education courses as part of their traffic violation sentencing. This depends upon the circumstances. If the driver does not completed their court ordered classes, additional penalties will be added in addition to the original penalties.
The fees for driver education classes vary by location and type of class. Drivers should investigate schools in their area and choose one that is accessible and affordable. Safe drivers are beneficial to everyone on the road.
