There are many different types of moving violations in the state of Georgia. Some of them are considered non-serious traffic offenses but are still enforced and should always be followed by drivers. General provisions listed in the Official Code of Georgia Annotated (O.C.G.A.) include:
· The obligation by drivers to obey official traffic directors such as police officers or road crew workers
· Drivers must have proof of auto insurance in their vehicle
· Drivers must adhere to sound restrictions, depending upon their city or county, with regards to stereo sound systems, mufflers, or other noise making instruments in the vehicle
· Drivers must obey traffic control devices such as stoplights, traffic signs, and traffic signals
· Drivers must pay attention to roadways and drive on the right side of the road or in the correct direction for one way streets
· When passing another vehicle, drivers must pass safely on the left and the car being overtaken must not speed up to thwart the other driver
· Drivers are not allowed to pass in No Passing Zones; these include places where visibility is limited and safe passing would be difficult
· Drivers should not tailgate or follow too closely; this makes it difficult for the driver to stop if there is a sudden braking by cars ahead.
The Georgia traffic laws are also particular about the right of way for drivers. The following are instances when drivers need to know the traffic rules:
· Drivers must slow down at yield signs or come to a complete stop at stop signs; drivers who are already at the intersection in question have the right of way; when in doubt, drivers should yield to the car on the right
· Drivers must pull over as soon as safely possible to make way for emergency vehicles or funeral processions
· If two drivers approach an intersection from different directions, the rule is to yield to the driver on the right
· When entering or crossing a roadway, drivers should yield to the drivers already on the roadway.
